Donating Records
We are actively accepting records that document New School histories. We also collect primary source materials that enrich the scholarly, applied practices, and creative pursuits of the New School community.
We collect and preserve physical and electronic/digital records, regardless of format. Formats in the archives include handwritten and typed documents, photographs, posters and publicity materials, unpublished manuscripts and scores, publications, audiovisual recordings, design materials, and a wide range of digital text and media files.
If you have records that you are interested in transferring or donating to The New School Archives and Special Collections, please contact us at archivist@newschool.edu.
Please do not mail or deliver items to The New School Archives without first obtaining delivery instructions from Archives staff. Unsolicited donations will not be returned.
To learn more about our collecting areas, see our Collecting Policy.
University Archives
We accept collections into the archives that contribute to an inclusive and representative historical understanding of daily life and work at The New School. Contributors include individual students, faculty, deans, administrators, alumni, as well as groups, including formal and informal student organizations, governance committees, executive oversight bodies, and academic and other offices. We also welcome contributions from those unaffiliated with the university. If you or your group are producing work that you believe ought to be represented in the archives, please contact us at archivist@newschool.edu. Do not mail unsolicited donations without first obtaining delivery instructions from New School Archives staff.
Personal and Subject-Specific Papers
In addition to records related to the history of The New School, we collect unique materials that support subjects taught and studied at our university. To discuss a potential donation, contact us at archivist@newschool.edu.
Book, Magazine, & Audiovisual Donations
