Zines

While the zine library community debates the parameters of zines in the 21st century, The New School Archives uses a traditional definition of zines. Zines are self-published and created to share personal experiences or topics one cares about; they are not made for profit. Zinesters may price their work to cover materials, printing, and mailing, but do not rely upon zine sales as a source of revenue. Most of the zines in The New School Archives collection are donated or purchased for under $20. Email SpecColl@newschool.edu to begin a conversation about adding your zine to the collection.

Most of The New School's zines are part of our Special Collections. Some zines are held in The New School Archives as part of larger collections, such as the Parsons School of Design Illustration Department zine and comics collection.

This gallery is the only way to browse and identify zines of interest because few of our zines currently appear in the library catalog.

If you are a New School instructor and wish for your class to use zines, please contact us with ample notice to discuss options.

When enlarged, each image will have a title to use when requesting the zine. Write to speccoll@newschool.edu with the title of the zines you would like to consult.
